Using contemporary Government records, an extensive range of publications and internet material, History Services NSW has compiled the most comprehensive source of information on over 85,000 convicts transported to the Colony of New South Wales between 1788 and 1849.

For any particular convict, information that is available on them is listed and referenced in the one record. This may include information from: shipping indents; Government Gazettes; Government archives; Journals; Musters; local histories; and internet sources.

You are invited to do an initial free check on the type of information held by History Services NSW on the convict you are researching.

Please click on the email link below and provide the following information:

  • Name of the convict;
  • Name of their transport ship, and
  • Year of arrival.

You may then wish to order a Result of Search for a fee of $30. This will contain full details and references on the information available for the nominated convict.
